Chocolate cherry muffins are moist chocolate muffins studded with chocolate chips and juicy chopped cherries, what’s not to love? Sometimes you want a decadent muffin for breakfast and, oh my, does this fit the bill!
I ended up with a ton of chopped cherries in my freezer this year. It was just a silly misunderstanding. I’d asked my kids to pick up a few cherries because I needed literally a few fresh cherries for pictures. Like 5 cherries total. But they picked up a few bags of cherries because I’d been raving about how cheap they were!
Here’s the thing about frozen cherries. They taste great still, but they often don’t look very pretty and their dark red juice will discolor lots of baked goods. That’s why I like adding them to chocolate! Plus, cherry chocolate chip anything is one of my favorite combinations.
This cherry muffin recipe has double the chocolate! Cocoa in the muffin batter and chocolate chips added. The recipe calls for dark chocolate chips, but milk chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chips work just fine too.
